The singular spectacle of a football match in which an elephant was matched against a man was winessed at a circus at Spalding on Thursday night.
J. Harrod, a well-known Spalding footballer, competed with the elephant but failed to get the big ball into the elephant’s goal in three tries. The elephant scored by one goal, Harrod saving two shots sent sharply by the huge beast. For this performance he was presented by the proprietors with a handsome cup.
