A Standard telegram, dated Paris, Sunday, says:- A telegram from Tunis brings information concerning a most extraordinary occurrence.
Mahomed Ben Aidlel Benzerti, who had been condemned to death for a quadruple murder, was hanged yesterday morning. After hanging the usual time, the rope was cut, and the executioners handed what was believed to be the mortal remains of Benzerti to his relatives.
As they were preparing to enshroud him, he suddenly sat up and exclaimed: “Before burying me, give me something to drink.”
He was conveyed to hospital, where he is now under treatment. The telegram asserts that he is expected to recover.
